Why Visit Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is unique. It is full of buzzing youthful nightlife, a world-class classical music scene and famous thermal baths. The capital of Hungary has a lot to offer: museums and galleries, churches and synagogues, palaces and historic buildings, baths and pools - there is something for everyone here.

Often described as the "Little Paris of Middle Europe", Budapest is famous both for monuments reflecting its own 1,000-year-old culture and for the relics and heritage of others who settled here such as the Romans and Turks.

The capital has two sides, Buda and Pest, stretching along the banks of the Danube River, representing two different characters of the city. Suburban Buda and its historic castle district offer medieval streets and houses, museums, caves and Roman ruins, whereas the dynamic Pest side boasts the largest parliament building in Europe, riverside promenades, flea markets, bookstores, antique stores and cafés.

Historical sights that can't be missed during Budapest tours include the State Opera House, the Central Market Hall, the City Park, the Fisherman's Bastion, and Hero's Square.

To get a wonderful view of the stunning Parliament Building on the banks of the Danube and a view of the rest of the city cross the Danube river via the Chain Bridge. Scale the trail or take the funicular up to see Fisherman's Bastion for great views over the city. See the Bronze statue of Stephen I of Hungary mounted on a Horse looking out valiantly over the city.

One more heart-tingling landmark in Budapest is located on the banks of the river, called Shoes on the Danube Promenade. This memorial made up of iron sculptures of shoes stand in memory of the people who died in the city during the holocaust.

After a day of sightseeing kick back and relax at one of the many spa resorts. The most famous one we advise to add to your Budapest itinerary is the Art Nouveau style Szechenyi Baths. Bathe your cares away in crystal blue water and play a game of water chess surrounded by 16th-century architecture.
